What is Commercial Diving?

Commercial diving is a specific marine occupation/service that provides offshore and subsea Inspection Repair and Maintenance (IRM) services tailored to a range of industries and government authorities.
The service ensures underwater assets are inspected to ensure they are in good working order and its life can be prolonged with required repairs and maintenance works.
Inspections
Commercial diving includes services such as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Close Visual Inspection (CVI) and General Inspections as well as high quality subsea photography and video surveys.
Highly trained and qualified personnel conduct metal thickness measurements, cathodic potential (bathycorrometer) measurements, magnetic particle inspection and current testing. A commercial diver can write inspection and maintenance programs taking into account the different construction materials involved, possible wear points, time constraints and conditions.
Repairs
Repair services of a commercial diving services may include dry underwater welding, grouted sleeves, clamp and sleeve solutions, alternative repair options and non-destructive testing.
Maintenance
Ongoing maintenance is important when you have assets contained in the harshest of conditions. Wave action and seawater causes corrosion and degradation. These can be minimised with an ongoing inspection and maintenance program to ensure the longevity of an asset. Maintenance tasks include water blasting, corrosion protection, cleaning, pile remediation, dredging and anode change-out.
Clients
Using a team of divers (not just one individual) or ROVs for further depths, Commercial divers can conduct IRM services on a number of oil and gas platforms.
Commercial diving services within Western Australia are ideally located to service the Australasian region with operations throughout the Joint Development Petroleum Area (JDPA) and the North West Shelf.
An experience commercial diver should be able to carry out ship inspection and repairs, hull cleaning and marine growth removal services. Within Australia they are usually commissioned by a number of clients in the marine industry to inspect assets including jetties, bridges, pipelines and water tanks.
Equipment
The right state of the art equipment and allocation of those resources has helped commercial divers build their reputation better performing IRM service suppliers within WA. Commercial diving services have access to vessels ranging in size from 6-13 metres, offshore dive systems, ROVs and associated equipment to handle any job, big or small. The variety of vessels, vehicles and equipment allows them make a best match to the project and client requirements.
